Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow, National Girl Child Day
ENABLING GIRL CHILD EDUCATION
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India had said, “You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women”. To improve the situation of girls in India, the Government of India launched “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” mission.
Accordingly, Diu administration took several initiatives are as follows-:
- Under #YES I BLEED campaign, “PADMAN” movie was screened, hitting at the orthodoxy revolving around the discussions related to menstruation and it highlights the importance of menstrual hygiene. Under the same campaign awareness programmes were held in schools (including both government and private).
- Community Awareness Programme on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” was organized for religious leaders, SAAS BAHU SAMMELAN (Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-Law meet) was organized to sensitize women towards their physical, mental and social wellbeing.
- Diu administration emphasized on right of girl education and right to protection, by re-enrolling girl students who had dropped out and focusing on completing their formal education. Administration rewarded teachers and appreciated their effort for exemplary contribution towards re-enrolment of girls and several measures were undertaken to provide safe transportation to girl students.
Administration’s goal is to ensure equality for all members of the society without any discrimination against the girl children of the society.
