INS Khukri Memorial
Indian Naval Ship Khukri was a frigate of the Indian Navy. During the Indo Pak War in 1971, she fell prey to three torpedoes fired by a Pakistan submarine on 9/12/1971 and sank 40 nautical miles off the coast of Diu taking down with her a crew of 18 Officers and 176 Sailors. Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, Mahavir Chakra (Posthumous) of the Indian Navy, the then Commanding Officer of the ship, chose to go down with the warship. The heroic act of Cap. Mulla and his valiant crew is shining example of unyielding spirit and indomitable courage glorifying the heist traditions of the Indian Navy. The INS Khukri Memorial was inaugurated on 15th December, 1999 and is found erected on the hillock at Chakratirth beach. It is a replica of the INS Khukri Naval Ship.
How to Reach :
By Air
Diu has an airport at Nagoa which is connected by a flight from Mumbai to Diu. The chopper service operate from Daman to Diu.
By Train
The nearest railway junction is Veraval, which is 90 km from Diu. Major cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Dwarka and Thiruvananthapuram are directly connected to Veraval Railway Station. Moreover, a meter gauge at Delwada is just 8 km far from Diu. Daily two trains connect Junagadh & Veraval to Delwada Railway Station.
By Road
Gujarat and Maharashtra are connected through many road links which connect to major National Highways of the Country. Vadodara: 595 Kms, Daman: 768 Kms, Ahmedabad: 370 Kms and Mumbai: 950 Kms. Gujarat State as well as private operator buses runs from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar etc. to Diu.
